• A well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression on 25 October and a deep depression by 26 October, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
• The system is forecast to reach cyclonic-storm strength by 26 October and may approach the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts around 28 October.

Impact & Risks

The potential cyclone could bring heavy rainfall to coastal regions in India and Bangladesh, particularly affecting Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram. In Bangladesh, early rains from the system may damage winter crops such as potatoes and onions, especially in poorly drained fields. Coastal areas may also face rough sea conditions, posing risks to fishing activities and maritime operations. Residents in vulnerable regions should prepare for possible flooding and strong winds, which could disrupt daily life and infrastructure.
